R12 889 per person (with a R3400 single supplement)

Join David Rogers for a 4-day photographic workshop at Steenberg Estate in Constantia Cape Town and enjoy a fantastic experience in one of the world’s most beautiful cities and at the same time learn how to make the most of your camera and also essential processing skills that will give your images that extra edge.

Steenberg is a luxurious award-winning hotel and is situated on the Cape’s oldest farm, in the tranquil Constantia Valley, against the slopes of the Steenberg Mountain, offering sweeping views over the False Bay. It’s buildings, dating back to 1682, were lovingly restored and have been declared a National Monument. The hotel, includes Catharina’s Restaurant, Steenberg Estate and the 18-hole Steenberg Golf Course all of which award winning establishments. The Spa at Steenberg is also expertly run by Ginko therapists and offers a range of treatments.

Steenberg is centrally located for planned photographic excursions to Table Mountain, Camps Bay, Bo Kaap, Kirstenbosch, Boulders, Cape Point and other highlights of this beautiful city. Workshop sessions will be held in the Vats conference room. The hotel, vineyards, golf course and restaurants provide ideal venues for lifestyle, food and architectural photography.

Non-photographers are also welcome and there will be flexible time each day for general relaxation.

What you will need

It is suggested that you have a digital SLR with interchangeable lenses, a tripod, a computer loaded with Adobe Lightroom (a free trial version is available on the Adobe website and it is valid for 30 days) and at least 40 GB of free hard drive space on your computer, a backup hard drive. Although the quality of your images will be best if you use top quality SLR cameras, even if you use a point and shoot you can still learn a great deal on these workshops.

How the workshop works

We will be photographing, processing and analyzing our images during the workshop. After each daily photographic outing (3 to 4 hours) workshop sessions will be held in the Vats private breakaway room adjacent to Catharina’s Restaurant. Here everyone will be invited to show some of their images for review and David will discuss processing techniques using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

There will be scheduled lectures on various subjects such as photographing architecture, landscapes, people, macro as well as birds and wildlife. Everyone has different needs and participants will also be able to schedule private one-on-one sessions to get individual advice about their own photographic equipment and analysis of their images.
