David Rogers green season trips to Botswana to coincide with the summer season when birds are abundant, landscapes are lush and big clouds build up over the landscape. The trip which can be undertaken in part or in full includes the Kalahari which is at its best at this time of year and the Okavango where the summer season is full of life and great opportunities.
You will arrive in Maun out of Johannesburg and be transferred onto a light aircraft that will take you to Tau Pan in the Kalahari where you will spend the next four nights. This tented camp, which is the first built in the Kalahari, has nine rooms, solar power and strict ecological guidelines. You have a great chance of seeing lion, cheetah, springbok, zebra as well as desert creatures including ostriches. Activities offered at Tau Pan are game drives, day trips to the well-known Deception Valley, Sunday, Piper and Passarge Pans, star gazing, bush brunches on Tau Pan, and nature walks with Bushman trackers.
You will fly back to Maun and transfer directly to Kwara. Those doing only the Kalahari portion will arrive in Maun in time for international flights.
16 – 20 January
Kwara is a traditional tented safari camp with 8 tents overlooking a secluded lagoon in a very game rich area of the Okavango bordering Moremi. It offers game drives into areas where lions and cheetah are often encountered. There are also water activities on offer including mekoro rides which offer excellent macro opportunities as well as power boat trips to see a very active heronry. Day and night drives are permitted.
You will fly back to Maun in time for your international flight back to Johannesburg.
A Kwando’s sister camps – Lebala or Lagoon – which are in the Linyanti area and known for great wild dog sightings are both excellent add ons to this safari.
