Best of Southern Namibia
Dates: May / June 2014
Duration: 7 Nights / 8 Days
Group: 5 People
Visit Southern Namibia’s iconic photographic destinations including Sossusvlei, which has the largest mobile dunes in the world and Wolwedans a private reserve which boasts spectacular desert scenery and offers a wonderful wilderness experience. The trip is timed for May when there is likely to be great desert light. You can expect spectacular landscape and macro photography on this trip.
There is a good chance of temperatures close to zero at this time of year. Be well equipped for the cold with hat, scarf, gloves and warm clothing especially at Wolwedans where you will travel in open vehicles and very early in the morning.
Day 1 – 4
You will be met at Windhoek International Airport and then fly by light aircraft to Sossusvlei where we will overnight at Sossusvlei Dune Lodge within the boundaries of the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This lodge has been chosen so you can be assured of access to the dunes one hour before sunrise which is critical for getting the best light on the dunes. We will spend two full days photographing the dunes.
Day 4 – 8
We will drive to Wolwedans Dune Camp in Namibrand Nature Reserve where we spend our next four nights. This wonderful reserve covers more than 170 000 hectares and is one of the largest private reserves in the world. Our base is Dune Camp, which has luxurious safari tents, which are built on stilts atop a 250-metre high dune offering spectacular views. For the next four days we will be up early for the best photographic light exploring the spectacular landscapes such as the famous Chateau in open landrovers and on foot discovering the remarkable drought resistant animals and insects, which give this area the name “the living desert”. We can expect to see oryx, ostrich, springbok, jackal and mongoose as well as myriad plants and insects.
After breakfast we will fly back to Windhoek where you will connect with your international flight.
This trip also combines very well with Fish River Canyon, Etosha and Damaraland. Please let us know if you would like to extend your visit.
