Kenya Migration

Dates: August 2015

Availability: Yes

Join David Rogers and 6 others for 7 nights starting in Nairobi and then at Mara Lion Camp in the wonderful Olare Orok Conservancy. It’s 30 minutes from Main Crossing and in the most productive of the wildlife conservancies bordering the Masai Mara.

This trip has been planned to coincide with the migration in the Masai Mara – an amazing spectacle with more than 2 million animals moving from the Serengeti into the Mara in search for grazing. At this time of the year thunderstorms entice the herds into the Mara in large numbers. We are very likely to see the migration but crossings are unpredictable and although we will do our best to see them they cannot be guaranteed.  The Olare Orok Concession offers some of the best game viewing in Africa. This is a seamless extension of the Masai Mara and lion and leopard occur in large numbers.  At last count there were 5 lion prides in this area. Cheetah are also often seen. Most importantly we avoid the congestion that occurs in the Masai Mara and night drives and walks, which are not permitted in national parks, are also possible. Porini Lion is an eco camp on Maasai land- the community benefit directly from it and run the camp.  It is 30 minutes from Main Crossing and we can easily get there in time for crossings should they occur.

You will fly to Nairobi and then take a charter to the Mara. For the next six nights we will be based Porini Lion Camp which is in the exclusive Olare Orok concession bordering the Maasai Mara. It is a seamless extension of the Masai Mara and offers outstanding game viewing. The great thing about staying here is that it is in a private concession shared with a few other camps and there are relatively few other people and sightings are strictly managed. We will also be able to go on night drives and on walks, which are not permitted in national parks. The camp has semi-permanent tents and a traditional safari feel

“This was the best game viewing I have experienced in my life – and I have been to the Mara more than 7 times”

- Barbara Hibben (Vale, USA).
