Spend 4 nights at Tswalu (or longer if you wish!) and experience South Africa’s largest private game reserve known for its excellent dining, accommodation, guiding and viewing of desert species including lion, wild dog, cheetah and also rare pangolin, brown hyena and aardvark. It’s a life changing experience for families, photographers and wildlife aficionados.

The reserve

Tswalu, in South Africa’s Northern Cape covers 120 000 hectares, which is more than twice the size of the Sabi Sands including dunes covered with a fascinating mix of bushman grass, kokerboom, shephard’s bush trees and other interesting arid adapted species and a dramatic mountain backdrop.

Where to stay

This trip is priced using a stay at The Motse – the main camp which has nine luxury suites. Every booking gets its own private vehicle, and you will feel so well looked after by your guide, tracker and the wonderful staff. You can also choose to stay in style at one of the six Loapi Tented Homes, or in your own private villa at Tarkuni.

Up close and personal

It’s possible at Tswalu to be on foot with meerkats, cheetah and wild dogs which have been well habituated to people and vehicles. This is a unique and fascinating experience and there is never a rush to move on for other vehicles as you will the experience entirely to yourself. Want to spend time with pangolin and aardvark and brown hyena? Tswalu is the place to do it too. The resident scientists working on the property studying all manner of subjects, from weavers to pangolins, are happy to spend time with guests too for an enriching experience.

The dining is outstanding – but leave plenty of room for a dinner at KleinJAN which is an extraordinary dining experience created by South Africa’s first Michelin-starred chef.
