Luangwa at its best
24 – 31 July 2022 | $ 6857
You can’t beat July and August for its comfortable weather and for the quality of the air. This is the high season and for many the best time to be in the park. There is still plenty of water in the lagoons and birding is excellent. If you are lucky we could see some birding parties with hundreds of yellow-billed storks and pelicans. In July its often possible to see leopards hunting through the day enjoying the cool temperatures. We spend 3 nights at Nkwali in a private concession in the game rich central area and 3 nights at Nsefu Lodge exploring this amazing area famed for its leopards, lions and incredible wilderness. Expect great scenery, leopards and some of the best game viewing in Africa. Walking safaris and night drives are on offer.

October is the peak of the dry season. The river is virtually a trickle and as buffalo and other herbivores start to show signs of stress, predators get the upper hand. Hippos choke the rivers in massive pods. Thousands of carmine bee-eaters nest in the banks and elephants are on the move. Its not a time for the faint-hearted: clouds are building and temperatures exceed 40 degrees. Expect early starts to beat the heat and amazing photography. We spend 3 nights at Nkwali in a private concession in the game rich central area and 3 nights at Nsefu Lodge exploring this amazing area famed for its leopards, lions and incredible wilderness. February is an extraordinary time with big cloud build ups, amazing birds and an exceptional river trip that takes us to Nkwali which we explore by boat, vehicle and on foot. Lion, leopards and wild dogs which can be found on the all weather roads. Exploring by boat is amazing and a highlight is the trip to the Nsefu Sector where we visit stork colony at Nsefu. I have run these trips more than 15 times and every one is extraordinary. Be prepared for some showers, possibly even a thunderstorm or two, but we seldom miss an activity and the opportunities for flowers, insects, butterflies are everywhere. The trip includes 2 nights at Nkwali, 3 nights at Nsefu and 2 nights at the amazing Luangwa Safari House.

extend your safari time in Zambia
Victoria Falls in Zambia is a must see destination. We recommend that you start your safari there to catch your breath before starting the early mornings when you are on safari. Seeing the Falls at Full Moon is something that photographers will really enjoy. The falls is always good but is at its best from January to August when water is flowing strongly.
Lower Zambezi National Park is just a short flight away. Its an incredible game viewing area known for its large numbers of elephants, wild dogs, lions and expeditions are offered by game drive vehicle, motorboat and canoe. Its a great way to end a safari. Tiger fishing is also popular here especially from July to October. We have some great safari partners.
Liuwa Plains is one of the most awesome destinations I have visited. its particularly good in May when birds are prolific. In November, at the time of the first rains, it hosts the amazing wildebeest migration.
Kasanka National Park during November and into December hosts an amazing bat migration with more than 6 million straw coloured fruit bats that take to the skies each evening. If you are a wildlife photographer looking for something extraordinary it is highly recommended.
I could not believe the forests and mature trees that we saw in Luangwa. Even as an experienced safari-goer, I had seen nothing like it.
