Join David Rogers for a 6-night wildlife and photographic safari in South Luangwa Valley
October is the peak of the dry season. The river is virtually a trickle and as buffalo and other herbivores start to show signs of stress, predators get the upper hand. Hippos choke the rivers in massive pods. Thousands of carmine bee-eaters nest in the banks and elephants are on the move. It’s not a time for the faint-hearted: clouds are building and temperatures exceed 40 degrees and we will have early starts to beat the heat. You can expect amazing photographic opportunities.
South Luangwa
With its escarpment forming the southern part of the Great Rift Valley, the Luangwa River is one of the most intact river systems in Africa flowing more than 1000 kilometres from the highlands of Malawi to the Zambezi. It is the life-blood of a 9050 square kilometre park with wild meanders and ox bow lakes that creating magical landscapes for photographers and amazing wildlife viewing. There are 60 different animal species including lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, wild dog, big herds of buffalo and herds of puku and impala as well as over 400 bird species including 39 birds of prey and 47 summer migrants. With large forests of mature ebony, mopane, leadwood, winter thorn and marula, as well as ancient boabab trees, this park has incredible diversity.

The area, which includes the salt pans, stork colony is prized by film makers and photographers for its leopards, lions and incredible wilderness.
